Endeavour Solutions Inc. is excited to be supporting the York University Lions Hockey team’s 4-day tour to Humboldt to give back to a community that just over 5 months ago became known for a horrible tragedy that left a nation reeling.
This tragedy sent shock throughout the hockey community and beyond, affecting so many including the York University Lions Hockey Club, as Mark Cross a 5-year alumni from 2011 to 2016, and an Assistant coach with the Humboldt Broncos perished in the crash.
The York University Lions will be playing three hockey games the first of which is against the University of Regina in Lumsden, Saskatchewan where Mark Cross grew up playing his youth hockey. The game will serve as a fundraiser for the Mark Cross Memorial Sports fund, which was established in honour of Mark Cross. Game two will see the Lions playing in Humboldt, Saskatchewan where they will play the University of Calgary Dinos at Elgar Peterson Arena (Home of the Broncos) with all proceeds from the game being donated to the Humboldt Community Strong Foundation. The final game will be played on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, when the Lions will play the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon. The Lions are working to partner with the Huskies in additional fundraising initiatives and will hopefully play the game in the Huskies brand new arena.
"This trip is obviously about much more than playing three hockey games" said Lions head coach Russ Herrington. "As a team, we are mainly focused on the opportunities we have to make an impact in Mark's honour through our appearances and fundraising efforts for the Mark Cross Memorial Sports Fund and the HumboldtStrong Community Foundation. We are privileged and extremely thankful to have the support of Mark's family, his girlfriend Molly and York Varsity Athletics to honour Mark's legacy in this fashion."
“Some of my peers within Endeavour’s senior management team continue to play hockey, and we have employees with kids who also play competitive and varsity-level hockey”. “I’m thrilled that we can contribute to such a touching and meaningful cause”, says Steve Ewing, Director Endeavour Solutions.
The Lions are still accepting donations from corporations or individuals to assist in covering the expenses involved with this tour.
